Marion County Public Schools have lost more than $50 million in state budget cuts since 2007, and more cuts are simply unacceptable. Now is the time to invest in public education again, and restore funding to where it was in 2007, before many harmful cuts were made.
Sign the "Fund Our Future" petition using the form below to show Marion County legislators it's time to support our public schools.
Marion County Public Schools are one of our community’s greatest assets, and they need our help. Since 2007, our public schools have lost more than $50 million. Florida is ranked 50th out of 50 states and Washington DC in per capita funding for K-12 education.
The result of having this lack of resources to educate and inspire our young people has led to Florida having the 3rd highest dropout rate in the nation. This is unacceptable to us as citizens of this community.
Florida’s Constitution is clear: “The education of children is a fundamental value of the people of the State of Florida. It is, therefore, a paramount duty of the state to make adequate provision for the education of all children residing within its borders.”
If Marion County’s representatives in Tallahassee are truly sincere in their commitment to public education, and if they seek to uphold our constitution, then we urge them to restore funding for Marion County Public Schools to 2007 levels.
